How do I back up or restore my records?

Open You → Your data → Export backup and choose a location you trust in Files. Burn does not automatically back up or sync your diary through iCloud. CSV is useful for spreadsheets; a Burn backup is needed for restoration. A backup can also retain historical plan or shopping-list records created by an older Burn version, even though those features are no longer shown.

Import backup replaces current personal records, so export your current records first if you need them. Review the import summary before confirming. Restored Health copies do not reconnect Health, reminders remain off after restoration, and existing privacy-sharing choices are separate from the backup. Avoid reinstalling as your first troubleshooting step when records cannot be opened.

How does Burn Pro meal review work?

Open Log food and choose AI meal. Start with a meal photo or write a description, then give permission to send it for analysis. Burn returns an editable meal with foods, portions and nutrition. A compatible food record is used when available; otherwise a usable AI estimate is marked Estimated nutrition and can be logged without another search. Tap a food to adjust its amount, including household units such as scoops, or replace the food when needed. Confirm the meal and date before saving. After saving, open an estimated diary entry and choose Adjust portion to change the amount. A suggestion is not added to your diary until you confirm it.

AI meal logging is part of Burn Pro and needs an internet connection. AI results are estimates and can be wrong, so check each food and amount before you confirm. AI meal review can be unavailable when a service check cannot be completed. Manual logging and your saved records remain available.

How do I find and log a food?

Open Log food and type a name. Check the preparation, source, portion and amount before saving. Typing searches on your device. When available, Search online requests additional matches; View online matches jumps to them. If no match is suitable, create a custom food with values you can verify.

For half a whole chicken, use the whole-chicken portion and check its edible amount and preparation. A raw, cooked, dry or prepared food is not interchangeable with a similarly named entry.

What if a barcode or label is not recognized?

Scan a barcode when the scanner is available, or type the number. Product matches come from public catalog data, so coverage and package details vary. Check the product, preparation and serving against your package, and use manual food entry when lookup is unavailable or unsuitable. For label recognition, choose a clear English nutrition-panel photo or enter the values yourself, then verify per serving, per 100 g or per 100 mL. Confirm kcal versus kJ. Burn converts kJ to kcal, but does not infer a weight from volume without a known weight. Camera access is optional.

Why are Health or reminders not updating?

You → Apple Health contains connection and imported-copy controls. Empty results do not prove permission was granted or that intake is zero. Check Apple Health permissions and source records. Disconnect keeps imported copies; Remove imported Health copy removes Burn’s copies only.

For reminders, open You → Reminders, check the time and enabled choice, save, and read the status. Device settings, Focus and Scheduled Summary can delay or silence delivery. Burn suppresses notification banners and sounds while the app is visible.

How do I restore a purchase or change sharing?

Open You → Burn Pro and choose Restore purchases when available. Use the Apple Account that made the purchase. Burn Pro includes AI photo or text meal review, the Burn widget and a personal maintenance range when those features apply. Product availability and the terms shown by Apple determine what can be purchased or restored. Restoring purchases does not restore a food diary. A pending or failed purchase is not confirmed paid access. Deleting records does not cancel subscriptions; manage them in your Apple subscription settings. Apple handles refund requests at reportaproblem.apple.com.

You → Your data → Privacy and sharing has separate usage and crash-report choices. If an off choice could not be saved, retry before closing the app. Delete all Burn records does not delete exported backups or Apple Health originals. See the Burn privacy policy for details.

Are calorie targets medical advice?

No. Burn’s targets and expenditure estimates are guidance, not a diagnosis or a guarantee. Food amounts and logging coverage affect what your diary, macros and progress can show. Burn does not automatically change your calorie target. For a medical condition or concerns about eating, ask a qualified clinician; Support and resources provides a non-prescriptive route.
